I'll quickly introduce myself - my name is Steven, and I'm one of the cofounders of Gear2Go. I've got a background in the military (army infantry) and recently received my MBA from the University of California, Berkeley. Originally from the Pacific Northwest, I currently live in the Bay Area. I love the outdoors and spend my free time hiking and camping with my wife and black lab Shadow. I also recently got into woodworking, though my skills in that regard leave something to be desired. In line with our company motto, Share what you love, we envision this blog as a way to share adventure ideas, highlight different community members, and increase our collective knowledge on all sorts of topics that contribute to an active lifestyle. We anticipate posting a few times a month on topics as varied as "Best Places to go Climbing in Tahoe" to "Which trailrunner is best?" to "What does Après ski mean anyways?" We originally envisioned Gear2Go as a means to connect lenders and renters of sporting goods. In working on the project for the past few months, we've refined our mission statement. With Gear2Go, we aspire to be much more than a peer-to-peer rental platform - we're seeking to create communities that are more connected, equitable, and sustainable. We intend on touching on all three in this blog, as we believe all are critical in creating a future we'd like to be a part of. Hey Gear2Go Team! I am Gavin McGarry the Co-Founder of Gear2Go. I am a Special Forces Green Beret and passionate outdoorsman. From mountaineering in the Sierras, to backcountry skiing in Alaska, I live to get out and experience all this incredible planet has to offer. This love for outdoors has come with an ever-growing need for more gear. With each new trip I constantly found myself buying new gear I knew I would rarely use. I thought, what if there was a site like AirBnB but for Gear? The original name for my brain child; Cup’a Sugar. During a ski trip to Tahoe, I ran my idea by Steve over beers…..he passed. But then a few months later after sitting in his Gig Economy Class he had started to think that I might be on to something, but that a name change was desperately needed and coined the name Gear2Go. With that, Gear2go was born and we got to work building our team. With Steve’s vote of confidence, I told my climbing buddy and fellow Green Beret, Matt about the idea. He loved it and introduced us to his fellow developer and climber, Jeremy. The Gear2Go team was born! Steve, Matt, Jeremy and I have harnessed all of our enthusiasm and love for the outdoors and poured it into creating Gear2Go. I am so proud of the team we have built here at G2G and excited to be working with these amazing guys to bring the G2G dream alive. We truly believe that the more people we can get out outdoors the heathier and happier our communities will be. That is why we are committed working to building a platform to create communities that are more sustainable, equitable and connected. We hope you’ll join us on our adventure.
